To new heights in climate research
Amazon Tall Tower Observatory (ATTO) - Project, Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry
The Amazon Tall Tower Observatory, ATTO for short, is a research site in the middle of the Amazon rainforest in northern Brazil. It is jointly operated by scientists from Brazil and Germany, including researchers from the MPI for Biogeochemistry in Jena. The goal of the ATTO project is to continuously record meteorological, chemical and biological data to gain insight into how the Amazon rainforest interacts with the atmosphere above and the soil underneath. This region influences global climate so strongly that we must first understand these complex processes to make more accurate climate predictions.
